Well, it won't be a secret long after I tell you and I have more than one. Don't think I'm going to share all my secrets here. For one, it just plain too much information and some of my secrets are boring.....maybe like the ones I'm going to share with you. I know I haven't written for a while. It due to a number of reasons but one of the main ones was the fact that I got hooked on a Korean drama on AZNTV called "My Lovely Samsoon." I loved this show, funny, cute and romantic to boot. But it was on every night, Monday through Friday for an hour and 1/2. And it was subtitled so you have to watch, you can't just listen like I like to do to a lot of TV and DCD's. I usually have something to with my hands while watching TV like sewing up a simple binding or knitting or embroidery or something to do with my hands. So there I was seating, glued to the TV for hours. And when it wasn't on I was waiting for a new episode. Sad isn't it? It of course, lead to watching more Korean dramas. Even the not so good ones. I got to where I liked catching what I knew had to be mistakes in the translation (oh, you can tell even when you don't know the language). Plus the cultural differences are fascinating. And they have the added bonus of being something we can watch with my Mother-in-law without her asking "What are they saying". For those of you who aren't up all all my famly members, my Mother-in-law is Korean. Been in the States for over 40 years and speaks broken English and now also speaks broken Korean since she has been in the States for so long. She's an interesting character and it has taken us a few years to get comfortable with each other. I have learned many a thing from her. She has noticed, watching these shows with the Mailman and me, that they use words that they didn't used to in Korea. Like opa, which roughly translated means friend. But like food, these shows give us a common thread and something to share besides her son. Another secret is my love of books. I read them up and spit them out. I gobble them up. Heck, I often have more than one book going and I have books that I've been working on little by little for months (the Power of Intention by Dwayne Dyer to name one). Those I read a little, bookmark my spot and come back to them a month or two later, read them a little more and put them down again. Right now I am in a phase where I love books that include recipes. Often these are mysteries. A couple authors I like are Joanna Fluke (lots of cookie recipes) and Diane Mott Davidson (lots of food with butter and cream). I don't know what it is. I don't cook most of these recipes. Heck, I try not to cook all that much these days. But it is pretty funny, these fascination with food recipes when you consider that I'm dieting again. Okay, not so secret number three, I'm dieting again. I have begun to realize that diet is something I am going to have to live with for a long time. Diet as a way of eating, not diet as a way of not eating. So I watch what kinds of things I eat, write down pretty much everything, keep track of most of the calories, carbs, proteins and fats and drink lots of water. This was the plan I learned at Curves. But what I have come to know for myself is that I have to let it go a bit, follow the plan but to allow myself to eat the so called bad foods sometimes and not throw the whole diet out. Anyhow my big over-all plan now is trying to lose 5 pounds a month and very do-able thing. Heck, in a year that would be 60 pounds. Okay, enough diet talk. Secret number 4. This one I am still find a little hard to share. I found out that I actually enjoy Justin Timberlake's last cd, FutureSex/LoveSounds. Most of it is good club music, great to dance to, not that I've done any of that for years. Anyhow, I heard a couple of the songs watching the Grammys and they sounded good. I was haunted by What Goes Around and had to get the cd to try and drive it out of my brain. I have this little OCD thing apparently, that I assumed everyone had until I talked to the Mailman about it. I found out that not everyone has music playing in their head most of the time. I was amazed. I have all kinds of music playing most of the time, rock, classical, opera, you name it, it's played in my head at some point. Anyway, sometimes the best way to get a song out of my head is to actually listen to it. So I bought the cd. And I like it, a lot. The best song though is Losing My Way. Okay, enough for now. I won't be so long in writing again... honest.
I am really shocked to find out not everyone has music running through their head all day! Weird.
I like J.T. too, and know where you are coming from with the Asian movies. I spent many many days lying around watching Thai soap operas with a boyfriends mother when I was younger. No subtitles though, but I still couldn't stop watching even though I couldn't understand the words.
I came via the Astarte's Mega-Zine link to your web page. You make beautiful journals!!
