it's centaurea montana--perennial bachelor button/mountain bluet. I never knew it rebloomed until this year, when I relentlessly chopped off the floppy stems with spent blooms earlier in the summer.


Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For years I have wondered what these flowers were called and no one seemed to know. I love them as they are so hardy and that they do keep coming back. My particular strain is a batch that my brother brought home from doing yardwork at my in-laws' neighbor, Katie, who has since passed away as well. So these flowers help keep me in touch with both Katie and my brother Carl, who loved every blooming plant around.
